Nithari Killings (2006): Police vs Crime vs CBI

My Crime enthusiasts, I welcome you in another blog of Case Rewind, today’s topic is considered one of the most notorious serial murders in the history of India. Disclaimer: the story is hard to digest (as of to me), if you faint don’t blame me. Here it is,

Hope you enjoy it--

In 2006 a serial murder took place in sector 31, Noida near Nithari Village of Uttar Pradesh, in the house of businessman Monindher Singh Pandher. In the month of December 2 residents of Nithari village reported that they knew the location of the corpse of the children who went missing in the past 2 years. It was found the informers were the parents of two of the missing girls linked with the same case, they suspected Surinder Koli a domestic help to Mr. Pandher is involved in the disappearances of the children. The residents of the village reported that they have been repeatedly ignored and abused by the Police and the local authorities, until they received help from Resident’s Welfare Association Former President S C Mishra.

On a fine December morning Mishra and the 2 residents searched the tank drain behind Mr. Pandher’s house, where one of them found a decomposed human hand. The trio then informed the Police about it after which the Police arrested Pandher and Koli. Koli confessed the killings of six children and a 20-year-old woman named Payal after sexually assaulting her. The anxious parents of the missing children rushed to the Police Station with the children’s photograph in hand, the parents accused the UP Police for negligence. The Police tried to prove the allegations false but all in vain. The agitated residents alleged the Police to be corrupt and were paid to conceal information.

Having discovered the human remains and enough evidence, the Police was over-negligent in the case, according to them total no. of victims were unknown. It seemed like the Police is consciously trying to suppress the case, but with the intervention of the Central Government in the matter their plan ‘successfully’ failed, now the Police started unearthing more evidence and human remains from land of Mr. Pandher. In a report Police claimed to have found 17 skeletons out of which only 15 were identified, this report resulted in the suspension of 3 officers on the ground of negligence. An angry mob of residents charged the Police stations and the accused’s house. A theory of ORGAN TRADE was proposed, the Police also believed in the theory initially due to missing organs from the dead.

As the tension rise between the locals and the Police the Central Government intervened again and handed the case over to CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation). The CBI involvement was believed to be because of 2 reasons: intense secondary investigation and a high-level inquiry to go into the Police lapse. The CBI panel started meeting the parents of the missing children and recorded their statement, an intense DNA analysis was conducted that stated: out of 17 confirmed killed people, 10 were girls, out of which 8 were sexually harassed and killed that included Payal, in another report it was confirmed that Payal was only adult, 11 of the children were below 10.

On other hand the inquiry committee submitted the report that indicates ‘gross negligence’ of UP Police in handling the cases of missing persons, the report also ruled out the theory of Organ Trade. After pressure and public outcry, the Uttar Pradesh Government suspend 2 IPS officers and dismissed 6 other policemen. While the culprits were in Police custody, CBI unearthed and found 3 more skeletons of the missing children along with other body parts and their belongings. The motive behind Payal’s murder was clear know!! She had discovered the crime of Pandher and Koli. The recently discovered human remains were sent to DNA analysis and were found to be missing children.

On Narco analysis and polygraph test Surinder Koli was found to be a Psychopath, he would rape the victim then strangle them to death and his boss Pandher was a womanizer. Their brain mapping test were conducted, the CBI found most disturbing information about them, they have been performing cannibalism and were feeding on the human organs of the children.

Surinder was charged of raping and killing and Pandher was charged with immoral Human Trafficking and destroying the evidences.

Surinder Koli was convicted 10 times and is sentenced to death.

Monindher Singh Pandher was first sentenced to life imprisonment but afterwards awarded death penalty along with Surinder Koli.
